Backstory

In 2008, my former UCLA Film School classmate, Karen Hunte called me to see if I was interested in working on a PBS original TV science and tech series called Wired Science. The series was a partnership between two very different entities and brands – PBS and the more irreverent Wired Magazine. Karen was the VP of production at KCET (PBS's Los Angeles station) and the executive in charge of the series. She needed someone to help her oversee the production – from script pitches to production, editing, sound mix sessions, and promotion.

One particularly challenging job was to ensure that the different stakeholders – from the creative team at Wired Magazine and PBS National’s execs, to KCET’s own execs and the our production team - were all on the same page. Not easy! The experience was exhilarating, fast-paced (we had to deliver a show a week), and complex. It was definitely a baptism by fire. I had to do a quick and deep dive into the world of science and technology and quickly learn the dozens of skills required to produce, deliver, and promote a nationally broadcast weekly TV series.
